Why Heart Health Matters
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death globally, and we are all familiar with the many factors that contribute to it. These include genetic dispositions, but also lifestyle choices such as poor diet, stress, lack of exercise, smoking. This means you have the power to reduce your risk through positive, lasting changes to your daily habits.

Heart-Healthy Habits You Can Start Today
Before diving into the benefits of hypnosis, let’s cover the fundamentals of heart health. Building these habits into your lifestyle can have a tremendous impact:
1. Eat a Balanced Diet: Fill up with vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats and fruit. Limit processed foods, added sugars, and unhealthy fats that can raise cholesterol and lead to heart disease.
2. Exercise Regularly: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity each week. Even short bursts of exercise can make a difference. Build a walk into your day; dance in your living room.
3. Manage Stress: Chronic stress elevates blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart disease. Deep breathing, mindfulness, and, yes, hypnosis are excellent tools for reducing stress levels.
4. Get Enough Sleep: Poor sleep is linked to many health issues, including heart disease. Aim for 7-9 hours of restful sleep each night to give your body time to recover and heal. Release stress before you sleep by listening to a calming audio or doing some gently stretches.
5. Quit Smoking or Vaping and Limit Alcohol: Smoking/vaping damages the heart and blood vessels, while excessive alcohol can lead to high blood pressure. Cutting back—or quitting—can significantly lower your risk.

How Hypnosis Can Help You Build Heart-Healthy Habits
For many people, the challenge isn't knowing what to do, but rather finding the motivation and consistency to make those heart-healthy choices every day. This is where hypnosis can be incredibly beneficial.
Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state where the mind is more receptive to positive suggestions and change. It allows us to bypass the conscious mind's resistance, creating an opportunity for deep, lasting transformation. Here's how hypnosis can support your heart health journey:

1. Breaking Unhealthy Patterns
Many of our poor health choices stem from unconscious habits—reaching for sugary snacks, smoking when stressed, or avoiding exercise because it feels like a chore. The subconscious mind reverts to familiar routines when we are stressed or feeling emotional. Hypnosis helps you identify and shift these automatic responses. For example, through a few hypnosis sessions, you can:
• Crave healthier foods instead of junk food
• Feel motivated to exercise regularly
• Naturally reduce or eliminate cravings for sugar, cigarettes (or vapes) or alcohol

2. Reducing Stress
Stress is one of the most significant contributors to heart disease. Hypnosis provides powerful relaxation techniques that help you manage stress on a deeper level. By practicing self-hypnosis or working with a therapist, you can activate your body’s relaxation response, lowering blood pressure and promoting a sense of calm. When you manage your stress effectively, you also greatly reduce the likelihood of turning to crutches like smoking or vaping, sugar or alcohol to get you through tough times.

3. Increasing Motivation
Sticking with a new routine can be challenging, especially when life gets busy. Hypnosis can strengthen your inner motivation and discipline. Through guided visualizations and positive suggestions, you can program your mind to view heart-healthy habits as enjoyable and rewarding, instead of burdensome.

4. Building Confidence
Many people struggle with the belief that they can’t change their habits or improve their health. Hypnosis works on a subconscious level to replace negative self-talk with empowering beliefs. This shift in mindset can dramatically increase your confidence in making lasting changes for your heart and overall well-being.

Self-Hypnosis for Heart Health: A Simple Exercise
If you're curious about how hypnosis can help you, try this short self-hypnosis practice focussed on improving heart health:
1. Find a Quiet Space: Sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths. Let go of any tension in your body.
2. Focus on Your Heart: Close your eyes and imagine your heart beating rhythmically. Picture it as a strong, healthy organ, pumping blood effortlessly throughout your body.
3. Deepen the hypnosis: Count from 1-5, reminding yourself you are going deeper into your subconscious mind and deeper relaxed with each number.
4. Positive Suggestions: As you relax, say to yourself, “Every day, I make choices that benefit my heart. I enjoy moving my body, eating nourishing foods, and feeling calm and peaceful.”
5. Visualise Your Future Self: See yourself living a vibrant, heart-healthy life. Visualise enjoying activities you love, feeling strong, and thriving. Let that image fill you with motivation.
6. Reaffirm: Finish by reaffirming, “I am committed to my heart health.” Then, slowly bring yourself out of hypnosis (a good way to do this is to simply count up from 5 to 1, reminding yourself that you are coming back to a more alert state with each number and bringing with you the changes). You will feel refreshed and empowered.
